I Am Enough Meditation Practice

I’ve struggled a lot with self worth over the years—sometimes feeling not enough and other times too much–but rarely feeling ok just as I am. One of the most valuable tools that has helped me heal in this area has been meditation.

If feeling your true worth is a challenge for you, try the following meditation practice for the next 7 days:

I Am Enough Meditation

Part A – Getting Settled: Set aside 5-10 minutes of quiet time each the morning for the next 7 days. Sit comfortably or lie down and begin to slow your breath down. Become aware of the rise and fall of your chest and belly as air moves in and out. Allow all thoughts of the day’s plans melt away with your breath, and bring your awareness to the present moment; just feeling your long inhales and slow exhales. When your thoughts wander, just gently bring your awareness back to your breath.

Part B – Cultivating Awareness and Acceptance: Continue with your slow breathing, and scan your body noticing if you have any areas of tension or stress. If you do, just bring your awareness there without needing to fix it or make it go away. After a few moments of practicing this body scan, take one of the following areas into quiet consideration:

-How would it feel to accept your body for exactly how it is right now?

-How would it feel to accept your job/career for exactly how it is right now?

– How would it feel to accept your relationships for exactly how they are right now?

-How would it feel to accept your lifestyle for exactly how it is right now?

What would it feel like to trust that you are exactly where you need to be in this area and doing exactly what you are meant to be doing right now? As you picture yourself in this area, imagine a warm glow of compassion, love and acceptance washing over you. With each breathe imagine you are inhaling self acceptance and exhaling any judgments or fears that are not serving you. Continue this practice for another minute or two, or until you feel a shift inside.

Part C – Closing: Complete your meditation with a prayer that you be shown all throughout your day what you next step is to be and that you be graced with a feeling of self love and self acceptance; hearing and seeing your value. Perform this practice every day for the next 7 days and notice how you feel at the end of the week. You may want to continue with this daily meditation practice or add journaling to your routine. Allow your intuition to guide you to your next step.

It is only when we accept ourselves exactly as we are that we create space for things to shift or transform. We grow, not by scrutinizing and guilting ourselves into action. We grow by loving ourselves and providing a safe space to spread our wings. Therefore it’s important that we cultivate a supportive and nourishing self concept so that the parts of us that need to heal can feel safe to blossom.
